Introduction
As the Nasca valley was troubled by constant droughts, the ancient settlers built subterranean channels called “aqueducts” or “puquios” between the 400-600 AC. These channels allowed people to capture water from the subsoil and transport it to the surface in order to obtain water to not only consume, but also to irrigate their fields, as they were purely farmers. These hydraulic engineers used rolled boulder stones and huarango (kind of tree) trunks in order to construct the aqueducts, which have been left to us as great legacy that are still being used in the present time.
ITINERARY
Description:
Any time after 08:00 AM, a local representative will stop by your hotel to pick you up; from here, we will head towards the southeast of the city of Nasca so we can start the tour through the Aqueducts of Cantalloc and surroundings, located approximately 4km outside of the City, are one of the most impressive pre-Inca constructions as it meant a great physical effort, organization, and technical direction from hydraulic engineers. These aqueducts foundations, located on the heights of Nasca, take the filtered groundwater to the city, where 20 wells or spiral shape vents are displayed.
After, we will visit the geoglyph "El Telar" located a few minutes from the aqueducts of Cantayo. Once here, we will ascend a small hill that serves as a natural viewpoint to observe this fascinating figure. This place will also provide a clear idea of how these enigmatic lines were made in the desert, as we are to be very close to them.
Finally, we will visit the archaeological site "Los Paredones", which is part of the Inca culture and considered an administrative center managed by only the elite class (relatives of the Inca). Finishing our visit here, we will transfer you back to your hotel in Nasca where our services end.
